Hoosier
History Live! is a weekly radio adventure through Indiana
history, live with call-in, hosted by author, historian, and

heritage-related road trip, and a Hoosier History Trivia question,
complete with a prize for the correct answer. It is the nation’s
first and only call-in talk radio show about history!
The program airs Saturday mornings from

Cemetery History in Indiana
When we say Hoosier History Live! covers the waterfront, we include
the soil, and what’s underneath. Cemeteries have a rich history in
Indiana, so we’ll explore pioneer burial grounds; they have been in
the news recently with the move of tombstones and human remains from
a mid-1800s cemetery in the Castleton area of Indianapolis to
Crown Hill
Cemetery to allow for the widening of I-69 near its
interchange with I-465.
Our studio guest, Jeannie Regan-Dinius
of the Indiana
Division of Natural Resources helped oversee the reburial.
Nelson also will talk with Jeannie about the history of Crown Hill
(the country’s third largest cemetery) and its predecessor,
Greenlawn Cemetery, which was located near White River and prone to
flooding.
We also will explore other historic
cemeteries, such as the magnificent Green Hill Cemetery near Bedford
that has unforgettable, personalized monuments created by
generations of stone cutters in the community.
